I like to write.

I don’t really have a reason to blog today.. there’s nothing special that I feel like I need to share. Just that I’m happy and blessed. God is so incredibly good to me.. I am realizing more and more how many blessings He’s given me through friendships. I never noticed how much God has blessed me through friendships until I stopped to enjoy being with people. It’s so nice to spend time with actual people rather than watching TV or going on facebook. Something that I’ve been thinking about lately is how I don’t spend a lot of time pouring into other people. I am definitely more of a “home-body”, where I don’t mind staying at home with only my family. Not to say that I don’t love being around people, because I do, but I am not someone who actively seeks to get together with people. But I’m realizing more and more that God wants us to be hospitable! And I am ready to take on that challenge.. πŸ™‚

To start off, my mom and I had a conversation about being hospitable. We talked about why we usually don’t have people over. I think everyone’s reasons are different, but for us, it’s because some things in our house need updating. Like really bad. But we concluded that it’s okay if you’re house isn’t perfect.. it likely never will be. But that shouldn’t stop us from obeying God’s call to be hospitable!

So after this, we decided that we would like to invite people over on a weekly(ish) basis. Now we haven’t started that yet, and I think every week is a little hectic for our busy family, but we want to spend time with people, so we are willing to take on a little bit of a challenge!

The next step for us is to plan something as a family, when we can all be here to enjoy our guests! πŸ™‚ Here are my ideas for being hospitable:

1. Board games!

2. Dinner

3. Playing the Wii (even with adults:)

4. Going out with other people.. meaning bowling, ice skating…

I think practicing being hospitable will be really fun and exciting! I hope that we can do it often, because I know that I’ll enjoy it even being the home-body that I am. πŸ™‚ But something else that I want to remind myself of is that my focus in being hospitable should not be to get a lot of friends or to have people like me. My focus should be glorifying God through encouraging others with the truth of His Word! That’s what true hospitality should be! πŸ™‚

Well, I guess this post kind of turned into something… but anywho..

To all my already dedicated fans, I love you.

Em

  1. Hi Em! Great post but I did have to laugh about you guys inviting people over on a weekly basis. When does your busy family have time? Your schedules are crazy almost every night and things come up unexpectedly. I think it would be a bit much to do every week but, maybe try for every other week. That way it won’t be too stressful and you’ll enjoy the time more. Also, I believe what God meant by being hospitable is to be kind to all people, including strangers. To give of yourself when someone is in need…something as simple as introducing yourself to and welcoming new members (strangers) at church or at school. Dopping by a new neighbor’s house with a plate of warm baked cookies or a basket of treats.Visiting children with terminal diseases in the hospital and reading a short book to them. Making and donating a stuffed animal or cute doll to an unfortunate child. Inviting a student over for dinner. These are the things that make one hospitable. Does that make sense? Let me know what you think would be enjoyable and hospitable. Love you tons! Gram
